There have been a lot of questions about what happens if a student or staff member presents COVID-19 symptoms once school resumes. Dixon Public Schools has worked closely with the Lee County Health Department to ensure Illinois State Board of Education and Illinois Department of Public Health quarantine and re-entry guidelines are followed. Below are links to a step-by-step guide that we will follow should students or staff present symptoms, test positive, or report that they have had close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19. Close contact means that someone was within 6 feet of a symptomatic person for more than 15 minutes.
Students will have their temperatures taken with an infrared thermometer prior to entering the building. When school begins, we will require parents who have students onsite to complete an electronic symptom checklist every day prior to your student(s) coming to school. This electronic symptom checklist will take under a minute to complete and will only be seen by the school to ensure students on-site are healthy enough to be there. When the symptom checklist is ready we will send out an automated call to notify you, and provide information on successful usage.
The links below show you the guidelines that Dixon Public Schools will be following, and the information from the IDPH that guides our decisions. We know this is an anxious time for everyone, and we want to ensure you that we are taking every precaution to keep our students and staff safe while on-site. That is the #1 goal for Dixon Public Schools, and we thank you for partnering with us to ensure this happens.
