Below are the mitigation metrics that the district is using when monitoring the number of COVID positive cases and quarantined cases in students and staff. We thank the Lee County Health Department and KSB for consulting with us on these metrics and providing guidance through this unprecedented time. These metrics will guide our discussions and decision making in the days and weeks ahead. Our goal in developing these metrics is to know where our numbers are trending, and to try to provide families at least 48 hours notice should we have to declare an "adaptive pause" at a building.
I will be color coding our Sunday metric post for easier viewing of our current numbers. Green means we are in the low risk range, yellow means we are in the medium risk range, and red means we are in the high risk range.
We work very closely with our health partners at LCHD and KSB to ensure our students, staff, and community's health is a top priority.

COVID-19 Mitigation Metrics
Individual Building or District Health Metrics:
Percentage of Positive Student COVID Cases - Risk Level - School Result
- Less than 0.5% - Low Risk - Stay in School (color coded green)
- Between 0.5% - 0.99% - Medium Risk - Stay in School, but closely monitor data (color coded yellow)
- 1% or greater - High Risk - Consider closing school(s) for a temporary time (color coded red)
Percentage of Quarantined Students - Risk Level - School Result
- Less than 10% - Low Risk - Stay in School (color coded green)
- Between 11% - 19% - Medium Risk - Stay in School, but closely monitor data (color coded yellow)
- 20% or greater - High Risk - Consider closing school(s) for a temporary time (color coded red)
Community-Wide Virus Outbreak:
Dixon Public Schools will look at the following County Level Metrics as a baseline for making decisions on our learning model in collaboration with the Lee County Health Department.
- Positivity rate over 8%
- New cases per 100,000 – target is less than 50 per 100,000
- ICU bed availability – at least 20% available
- Number of CLI (COVID Like Illness) admissions – Target – decreasing or stable on our side
We consult with the LCHD on our County Level Metrics. We will consider going remote when any three of the four hit warning level. We would stay in remote learning until we come out of warning or see improvement in mitigation efforts and a declining trend in the specific metrics identified as warning. Parents will be notified if there is a concern of an imminent closing and moving to remote learning.

Individual Positive Confirmation of a student or staff member in a school or on district transportation (impacts a single classroom, classrooms, or bus)
- Contact and consultation with the Lee County Health Department.
- Contact tracing through the health department for all “close contact” students as defined as being within six feet for more than 15 minutes.
- All close contact students and staff will be quarantined for 14 days. This includes bus transportation for students.
- The District Nurse will notify the bus company of any students who cannot ride the bus.
